Heart disease is the number one cause of death for American women. More than 500,000 women die from heart disease in the United States each year-almost twice as many women as breast, lung, ovarian and uterine cancers combined. The American Heart Association has called heart disease in women the "silent epidemic" because most Americans are still not aware of how common it is in women.
At LifeBridge Health, we understand the unique aspects of heart disease in women, which is why we have created our Women's Heart Program. The program offers low-cost screenings to members of our community to better assess their risk for heart disease.
During a screening, you'll meet with qualified health care professionals to identify any risk factors as well as potential health issues that could affect your cardiovascular health.
However, this program is much more than a screening. The staff provides wellness education and health resources to help you make the necessary lifestyle changes to reduce your risk. They empower you to take the next steps toward a healthier you as you learn simple ways to change behaviors that can dramatically improve your health.
The heart screening includes:
- Heart health awareness assessment
- Complete metabolic blood profile
- Cholesterol testing (HDL, LDL, triglycerides)
- Glucose testing
- Blood pressure
- Body composition analysis
- Brief education with a registered nurse
- Free, 2-week trial membership to LifeBridge Health & Fitness
A cardiologist will review screening results with certain risk factors at a later time.
Women's heart risk screenings are recommended for women who:
- Are not currently seeing a cardiologist
- Have not had a screening in the past year
- Are 18 to 70 years of age

"I wish more people would take advantage of this service," Kristel Donner, a heart screening participant says. "It's just a simple and fast way of getting information. It's a great community service. I did not know that my blood pressure was elevated."

If you have already been diagnosed with heart disease or are presently seeing a cardiologist, it is important that you refrain from being screened. Please continue working with your physician.
