Community Initiatives
Community Aide/Home Visitor
Sinai Hospital's Community Initiatives is a service partner with The Park Heights Human Development Zone. Our role to assist women during pregnancy and during the first year of their baby's life. We provide home visiting services with the goal of effectively connecting families with health and social services that will enhance the lives of the entire family. Family Violence Program
In 1996, Sinai Hospital was identified as one of three sites in Maryland to develop a model for domestic violence intervention in a hospital setting. The Family Violence Program at Sinai Hospital is dedicated to breaking the cycle of intimate partner violence by providing assistance to those who are affected. The Program provides help and support through crisis intervention, individual and group counseling for women, ongoing support services, services coordination, legal information and court advocacy as well as education on domestic violence for both victims and health care providers. The Women, Children and Youth HIV Program
The Women, Children & Youth HIV program (WCYP) at Sinai Hospital provides support and advocacy for HIV positive women, children, youth and their families. Services are provided together with the departments of Pediatrics, Adult Infectious Disease and OB/GYN. Since 1989, this program has coordinated care with Greenspring Pediatric Associates (GPA), a division of Park West. GPA is the provider of primary pediatric care and HIV specialty care located on the Sinai Hospital campus. The WCYP gives attention to the psychosocial aspects of this chronic disease. Our WCYP services include ongoing support services, referrals to community, HIV services and other social support services, care coordination with medical providers, illness counseling, in- home outreach services, crisis intervention for those newly diagnosed or experiencing a crisis, and a twice- monthly Women's Support Group for HIV positive women. Perinatal Depression Outreach Program
The Perinatal Depression Outreach Program (PDOP) is dedicated to helping women understand the emotions that accompany pregnancy and the postpartum period. Since many women experience some form of depression or
anxiety during pregnancy or after giving birth, Sinai Hospital's PDOP helps women identify when their experience is more than the "baby blues" requiring further assessment and treatment. We offer depression screening, clinical assessments, treatment referrals, education on the risk and symptoms of perinatal depression and anxiety, follow up by phone, home visits and group support. Perinatal Addictions Specialist
The mission is to assist substance using/abusing women who are pregnant or who have recently delivered. Services provided address illicit drug use/abuse in order to maintain and enhance women's health as well as that of their children. Program services include providing addiction assessments for appropriate treatment referrals, follow up services by means of in-home education, advocacy and services coordination. Breast Friends
Breast Friends provides support and education to young women in the Baltimore metropolitan area who are affected by breast cancer. Support is provided 1:1 by the program coordinator and in a monthly support group setting facilitated by a licensed social worker. Community outreach and education regarding breast health awareness is provided to young women's groups and under-served inner-city African American women. Youth Development Specialist
The mission is to assist fathers and young men to play an active role in community and family life. Our male youth development specialist provides assistance with learning skills for responsible fatherhood. He encourages and makes referrals for education, job training, and employment. Our youth development specialist acts as an

Community Health Education
Community Health Education (CHE) at LifeBridge Health provides health promotion programs and disease prevention activities and screenings to the communities we serve as well as the employee population. Education programs such as Eating for Energy and Healthy Grocery Store Tours are hands-on activities that help participants improve their health knowledge and learn new skills to move them forward in their health journey. The Diabetes Management Program is a 3-part series that teaches participants about risk factors related to their disease, strategies to improve their health and offers a supportive network to share similar experiences. CHE also provides health screenings such as Women's Heart Health and Lifestyle Screening, Skin Cancer Screening, Prostate Screening and more. Screenings are designed to identify persons at risk of a particular disease or condition and teach them simple ways they can improve their health habits one step at a time. Screenings also help link participants to health care professionals for further follow up. Health fairs are also integral part of CHE's educators.
